Dad and daughter who died in fire pictured as tributes paid

A father and his daughter who died in a house fire in Yorkshire have been pictured for the first time as tributes roll in for the "sweet souls."

During the early hours of Sunday morning, a fire broke out at a house on Russell Close in Heckmondwike. West Yorkshire Fire and Rescue Service quickly attended alongside West Yorkshire Police but sadly two people lost their lives to the fire, Yorkshire Live reports.


Sohaib Ahmed, 38, and his daughter, Manahal Ahmed, nine, died in the hospital. An 11-year-old girl, Sohaib's daughter, remains in a critical but stable condition in hospital.

People across West Yorkshire and the wider region have been paying tribute to Sohaib and his daughter Manahal after they have been pictured for the first time.

Georgina said: "So very sad awful a dad and his wee daughter taken far too soon Rest in Peace sweet souls".

Angela wrote: "Oh this is so sad, and pray the little girls as full recovery". Anne added: "aww so so sad my thoughts are with family rip both of u".

Joan said: "Heartbreaking for all involved! so sad". Another person said: "May ALLAH grant deceased higher ranks in jannah n sabr to rest of the family n relatives and friends. Ameen".

Another said: "May both souls rest in eternal peace".


Detective Inspector Paul Greatorex, of Kirklees CID, said: "We are continuing to work with colleagues at the fire service to investigate this dreadfully sad incident which has resulted in a father and daughter losing their lives.

"Extensive enquiries have been ongoing since yesterday and we have been working to locate and support relatives of the victims both here and outside of the UK at what is clearly an awful time for the family.

"While our enquiries remain ongoing we do not believe there are any suspicious circumstances regarding the cause of the fire and will be preparing a file for the coroner in due course.

"Our support for the family involved clearly also still continues."

An investigation into the fire is ongoing.
